We know it. Your life doesn't satisfy you. Once in a while, they will look back in their life and they will discover a terrible fact. Instead of viewing them as a learning opportunity, you criticize and put pressure on yourself for not predicting a less than perfect outcome. They care little about social norms and do not readily fit into the bigger social picture.
Somehow, the us believe perfectionism. Now, maybe not to the extent of your partner, but there may be some things that you need to do perfectly. They will feel responsible for not making things work. Remember that kids are supposed to make mistakes and each mistake is a learning opportunity. And this is the BIG problem, they are forever dissatisfied with themselves because there is always something wrong or not quite right within them.
